Garden Wars!!! (Week 10)

Whew, last week was a close one. But in the end, Ryan Smartt and his show-offy figs won out. Now, on to week 10 which proved to be challenging, thanks to all that godforsaken heat.

Whew, last week was a close one. But in the end, Ryan Smartt and his show-offy figs won out. Now, on to week 10 which proved to be challenging, thanks to all that godforsaken heat.

But first! Some housekeeping details!

Our current standings are:
Sarvay: 2 (winning weeks 3 and 7)
Pharr: 3 (winning weeks 1 and 4, and 8)
Smartt: 4 (winning weeks 2, 5, 6, and 9)

And for those of you new to Garden Wars:

John Sarvay (of Floricane and Buttermilk & Molasses), Ryan Smartt (of ConnectRichmond), and Scott Pharr (of PharrOut and RVANews) face off each week as they showcase images of their agricultural efforts, complete with clever(ish) captions. Then you, the readers, decide who wins. Whoever has won the most number of weeks out of the three-month run of this series will be treated to a meal by the losers.

Now, on to the battling.

Sarvay

Could anything be quite as cute as a girl, her pup, and a fresh summer zuke?

Our third summer crop. Will the beans ever stop?

The hellish heat just makes them more sweet.

Pharr

Remember when it was a million degrees outside? I dedicate these to the wonderful weather that makes gardeners’ lives difficult.

That’s right, I made her sit in the heat to take this picture. She was a trooper and made me buy her ice cream afterward.

WE’VE BEEN ATTACKED! ITS… ITS….MOTHRA! NOOOOOO!

Smartt

Lyla loves helping daddy water the herbs, as well as this small plant which came from a larger plant that belonged to her great-great-grandmother.

Lined up and ready to be chopped: mild, medium, hot and ridiculously hot.

And speaking of ridiculously hot, the recent Richmond heat still hasn’t kept our roses from blooming.

Now, dear readers, it’s up to you. Leave your votes in the comments to help us decide…

WHOSE GREENS REIGN SUPREME?!??!?!

  1. Dog with an underbite, persistent beans, beautiful tomatoes despite the heat, and captions that rhyme? Sarvay all the way!!! (See what I did there?)

  2. i agree, the rhymes win sarvay gets my vote.

  3. Sarvay. I was going to vote for him regardless. Mostly because I feel sorry for him at this point.

    Anybody want a peanut?

You have to give it to Lyla and her great-great-grandmother’s plant. That’s so very Richmond. It’s Smartt again this week.

  13. Pharr. Love the little peppers up close, the blond kid face, and the MOTHRA.

  14. Sarvay. Because those tomatoes are gorgeous. And I want to steal that cute dog.

  15. Smartt

  16. I vote for John Sarvay’s garden! Beauty. So delicious looking. Send food!

  17. Pharr. Kyla has to be the cutest thing ever and she deserves a win after all that modeling.

  18. Corie on said:

Pharr… Kyla is too too cute… plus he had to buy her ice cream later. that means she knows how to work the system for her benefit!

  19. Smartt for the herbs and hot pepper varieties.

  20. From the land of EarthBox heaven (where we’re left with squash, basil and fruitless tomato foliage), I’m voting for Sarvay, zuchini, the dog and the adorable young ‘un.

@sarvay We’re walking our neighbor’s dog, Zuchini this week if you’re looking for kids, dogs and photo shoot props! I can drop them all off around dinner, pick them up…say, by 9 or so?

a kid with a bell pepper in her mouth, c’mon guys, you can’t beat that!! Pharr for the win!

My vote is for Sarvay- the pic with the girl and her pup is adorable.

I’m voting for Sarvay. Not because I feel sorry for him, but because I’m certain that his garden is way more bounteous (bountiful? bountimal?) than ours. Look at those tomatoes and beanie babies!

    Pharr all the way.

    Sarvay… all the way!

  28. Mickey on said:

Tried to resist the overwhelming cuteness of a girl, her dog and a small summer squash and failed miserably. I’ll add that the expression on the dog’s face is priceless.

My vote is for Sarvay. :)

I vote for Sarvay!! Gotta Love Rilo & Thea!!

  32. Sarvay, because Thea seems to be a princess who is anointing her canine subject with the royal zucchini septre.

  33. @sarvay

  34. Catherine on said:

As much as I like the Mothra reference, I’m going to have to go with Sarvay this week. Gotta give it to him for persistence in the fight against the squirrels of Northside.

  35. Wow, not even close. Sarvay took this one, no question.

Tune in tomorrow for week 11!
