Zombies return to Carytown on Saturday

While many are watching The Walking Dead on AMC, Richmonders don’t have to rely on television to see a throng of undead parading around in post-apocalyptic pettishness. The 7th Annual Richmond Zombie Walk will take place this weekend. Here’s how the event started, what charity it supports, and just how many hundreds of zombies we can expect in Carytown this Saturday.

Halloween kindness: turning those tricks into treats

Our resident kindness expert, Patience Salgado, has a few tips to help make this Halloween stand out, for both kid and adult alike. Patience has been featured in O magazine (you know, Oprah Winfrey!) so this very kind, sweet soul knows what she’s talking about!

Raising Richmond: The sun and the rain and the apple seeds (and also mud)

My son and I have a thing about picking fruits and vegetables; the act of plucking something from a vine and dropping it in a bucket is soothing to the quiet, focused nature we share. Now that Autumn is upon us, it only made sense to carry our favorite pastime over into the new season. That’s right! It was apple picking time, y’all!

I’m a Halloweenie

I’m a Halloween lover from way back. If it were up to me, I’d dress in costume and throw Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups at little children every day of the year. Halloween is the one day every year that I feel I can be fully myself–by which I mean a complete weirdo.

2011’s Halloween movie hopefuls

It’s just such a beautiful time of year, what with the leaves turning and the cider brewing and the blood collecting in pools on every movie screen. Which of this year’s horror films will send chills down your spine?

Events for the mini-monsters

While there’s plenty of spooky scary things that go bump in the night around Halloween, don’t think you have to lock the wee ones away to safeguard their precious psyches. Richmond is replete with family-appropriate events that will steep children into the holiday spirit without scaring the bejesus out of them.

Ghoulish and ghastly grown-up fun

Don’t think that Halloween is children-centric. Nay. Adults can get in on the action, too. Any why not? There are ghouls, goblins, and Ghostbusters! While Easter and Christmas lose their childhood luster as we get older, Halloween manages to keep us young. We’ve culled some very adult-friendly events to help celebrate the macabre as only seasoned adults can.

Pumpkin patches and hayrides

It seems like just yesterday we were complaining about the heat and humidity, and now Halloween is just around the corner! To really get into the fall spirit, it’s time to pacify our autumn predilections and procure us some plumply pumpkins! Don’t buy a pumpkin on Amazon, silly! We have some great pumpkin patches around Richmond that’ll provide, not only a pumpkin, but lovely afternoon for the entire family.
