Pumpkin patches and hayrides

It seems like just yesterday we were complaining about the heat and humidity, and now Halloween is just around the corner! To really get into the fall spirit, it’s time to pacify our autumn predilections and procure us some plumply pumpkins! Don’t buy a pumpkin on Amazon, silly! We have some great pumpkin patches around Richmond that’ll provide, not only a pumpkin, but lovely afternoon for the entire family.

We have some great pumpkin patches around Richmond that’ll provide, not only a pumpkin, but lovely afternoon for the entire family.

Ashland Berry Farm

Pumpkin picking, including an “All the Pumpkins (from the field) You Can Carry & Take 3 Steps Just $20” schtick. Hayrides, mazes, and haunted evenings available.

• Date: October 12th-31st
• Time: Open weekends from 10am to 5pm. The last hayride leaves at 4:30pm. Open weekdays from 1pm to 6pm. The last weekday hayride leaves at 5pm.

• Cost: Individual pumpkins from $2 to $20

Belmont Pumpkin Farm

Hayrides out to the pumpkin fields, mazes, farm animals, face painting and more.

• Date: Every weekend in October, as well as Tuesdays and Thursdays. Open to school groups Monday through Friday (call for details). Haunted hayrides run October 16th through October 23rd.
• Time: Open 10am to 6pm on weekends and from 1pm to 6pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
• Location: Rt 617 at North River Road (Mathews County)
• Cost: $4 for ages 2 to 62, $12 family rate. Military families are free!

Boulevard Flower Gardens at Ruffin Mill

Pick your own pumpkin patch and free wagon rides. Castle Moon Bounce for $1 and pony rides for $5. See the website for information on reservations for children’s groups.

• Time: Monday- Friday 2-6pm; Saturday & Sunday 10am-5pm.
• Location: 2100 Ruffin Mill Road (Colonial Heights)

Chesterfield Berry Farm

Fall harvest corn maze and pumpkin patch and BBQ platters…yum. They also have this deal: 5 pick your own pumpkins of your choice for $19.95  (any size, no coupon required)

Windy Knoll Farms

Take a ride on the hay wagon out to their pumpkin patch if you prefer to pick your own, or just choose one from the selection at the checkout desk.

• Date: Through the month of October
• Time: Friday 1pm to 5pm and Saturday 9am to 5pm

• Cost: Ornamental pumpkins and gourds at $.50; pie pumpkins are $2.00; carving pumpkins are $4, $6, or $8
