VCU travelled to Wichita State last year as part of the ESPN BracketBusters. With :0.8, remaining Joey Rodriguez drained two free-throws to help the Rams top the Shockers 68-67. After the Rams finished 3-5 last year in February, their victory over Wichita State likely fueled their controversial selection to the NCAA tournament. All controversy was quickly forgotten when VCU made the Final Four. Unfortunately for the Shockers, the Rams likely took their ticket to The Dance, and the Shockers were left to the NIT–which they eventually won.
2,870 Miles
While fans might be disappointed that the game is on the West coast, Bradford Burgess, Troy Daniels, and David Hinton are excited to be in Nike country. Junior forward David Hinton owns 300+ pairs of shoes, Burgess is an avid collector, and the two wanted to travel to Portland even before Sunday in order to shop at the Nike store.
Carl Hall
In 2009 VCU picked up a verbal commitment from junior college transfer Carl Hall. Averaging 18.6 PPG, 11.3 RPG, and 3.6 BPG at Middle George College, Hall was a huge recruit that would have added much needed front court depth for the 2011-2012 season. Carl Hall eventually switched his commitment and signed with the Wichita State Shockers where he has started 19 games.
