PHOTOS: Starbucks gets brewing on the Boulevard

The chain’s first location in Scott’s Addition opened last Friday morning.

Starbucks’ newest Richmond location is now open on The Boulevard. The chain’s location at 1017 North Boulevard opened Friday morning.

The new building, built on the site of a former Kangaroo gas station, shares space with Growlers To Go, which opened last December to much fanfare.

While I’m the first to trumpet local coffeeshops over the national chains, it’s a convenient addition to the burgeoning Scott’s Addition neighborhood.

Locally-owned neighborhood coffee options include The Urban Farmhouse Market & Cafe on Norfolk Street and Lamplighter Roasting Company on Summit Avenue.

This location has a drive through and outdoor patio, and has more of an industrial feel than other Starbucks with its high, open ceilings and open floor plan.

The building was built, is owned, and leased by local developer Charlie Diradour, who also owns adjacent restaurant En Su Boca.

I’ll take Stir Crazy in Bellvue over all of these places. I’m still mad Crossroads left the Fan, but I like them too when I’m in the Forest Hill area. Don’t forget Alchemy opened on Laurel and Broad as well.
