VCU adds 2015 SG Samir Doughty
VCU added one of the most prolific scorers in Philadelphia history on Thursday.
Virginia Commonwealth University added 2015 shooting guard Samir Doughty on Thursday. A 6-foot-4 senior out of Math, Civics, & Sciences High School in Philadelphia, he’s an athletic guard with a tremendous ability to score. Originally a commitment to St. John’s, Doughty was granted his release when Chris Mullen replaced Steve Lavin in New York City.
The commitment is a huge addition for Will Wade this late in the recruiting season. According to Ted Silary, Doughty ranks 20th all-time in Philadelphia for scoring. He has no trouble putting the ball in the hoop using a combination of his size, athleticism, ball-handling, and motor.
During his senior campaign he averaged 24.9 PPG, 4.1 APG, 9.7 RPG, and 2.7 SPG while shooting 50% from the field— though his team finished 14-14 overall and a tough 2-8 in conference play.
VCU still has one remaining scholarship for the 2015-16 season. Expect them to add one more guard to mitigate the loss of Korey Billburry and Melvin Johnson after next season, or they could extend the scholarship to walk-on Torey Burston for one season.
