Napoleon Taxi and Nightlife Virginia have partnered to create a free late-night transportation service called The Hop RVA. The bus service debuts tonight–Friday, June 6th–at 6:00 PM and runs between the Carytown Kroger and the 17th Street Farmers Market in Shockoe Bottom.

“It is the sole mission of Napoleon Taxi & Nightlife Virginia to provide a service that is both fun and free, [and] to answer the need for better public transportation after business hours,” said a released statement. “This service hopes to promote safe driving, while giving those who might be too inebriated to drive another means of transportation. With VCU so close, it will assist in giving those students, who are out enjoying the nightlife, a safer ride home.”

The Hop RVA will run Fridays and Saturdays from 6:00 PM – 3:00 AM, and will offer live GPS tracking on its website.

Much like its predecessor, To the Bottom and Back, The Hop RVA will provide its free service with the help of individual and business donations. Businesses may purchase advertising space on the bus through a sponsorship package.

The new service wants to have three buses by the start of VCU’s Fall Semester. Organizers are also planning routes that’ll focus on local tourism and Sunday brunch spots.
