I hope you all enjoyed the break from the sun and the heat yesterday. Tuesday’s high of 85 broke a streak of 16 straight days of highs at 90 degrees or above. On average, we see about 15 days of 90-degree temperatures in July. So far this month, we’ve seen 22. In addition, those three 100-degree days we saw over the weekend were enough to tie with 1954 for the most 100-degree days in a year at 9. I have a feeling that we’re not done with the heat quite yet, and may very well see at least one more day in August to put us over the top and set a new record.

Speaking of the heat, CBS reporter Steve Hartman fired up the time machine to give us all a slightly different perspective on this summer’s heat.

Just remember, December is only 5 months away.

In the meantime, the sun is back out for Wednesday and temperatures are set to climb into the lower 90s this afternoon. It should be a relatively quiet day otherwise, with relatively cloud-free skies and a gentle to moderate breeze. Lows tonight should fall into the mid 70s.

Squirrelcast (vs. Reading, 7:05pm): A quiet night across the area, which should mean a great night for baseball at the Diamond! Temperatures will be in the mid 80s at game time, dropping to near 80 by game’s end.

A cold front approaches from the west on Thursday, making another dent in the ridge of high pressure that has dominated the pattern this summer. The front’s passage will the be the trigger for some possible showers and storms in the evening. The chances for anything severe are marginal at best, but there’s the chance of some action. High temperatures will head into the mid 90s before the front passes. Lows will fall into the mid 60s overnight following the frontal passage.

Squirrelcast (vs. Altoona, 7:05pm): There’s the chance of some evening showers and thunderstorms during the game. First-pitch temps will hit the upper 80s to about 90, cooling to the upper 70s by game’s end.

Things should stay slightly cooler for Friday and the weekend as the cooler airmass sticks around for a little bit before the Bermuda high returns. I’ll have an update on Friday.
