Coach Will Wade signed the first recruit of his tenure on Thursday afternoon. Gerron Scissum is a three-star, 6-foot-7, 190 pound forward out of Huntsville, Alabama who picked the Rams over Ole Miss, Murray State, Louisiana Tech and Maryland according to AL.com.
During his senior campaign at Lee-Huntsville High School he averaged 16.4 points, 9.0 rebounds, 3.0 assists, and 2.0 blocks while shooting 40.2 percent from 3-point range. The Generals reached the state semifinals and Scissum was a finalist for Mr. Basketball in the state of Alabama.
Coach Wade recruited Scissum when Wade was head coach at Chattanooga. With nine talented players returning but Tevin Mack, Kenny Williams, and Jordan Murphy all de-committed, VCU needs a freshman class that will turn into the core of VCU in a few seasons. While not as highly touted as VCU’s three recruits who de-committed after the departure of Shaka Smart, Scissum has the tools to develop into a quality stretch-four for VCU. Welcome, Gerron Scissum.
