Yes, bars are there for socializing, dranks, and sustenance, but sometimes they go above and beyond the usual live band and karaoke fare. These are my kind of outings:

Capital Ale House, Downtown Music Hall
Classic Movie Night. Wednesdays at 8pm. Free. Upcoming flicks: Easy Rider, Stalag 17, and Forbidden Planet.

MoJo’s
Thumb wrestling. Wednesdays, starting around 10pm. Pairing is at random and you’re just as likely to get the guy twice your size that will kick your butt as the drunk girl who’ll easily lose. I myself have made it to the semi-finals, only to have to leave because it was past my bedtime on a weeknight. The thumb contests are spaced out over the course of the evening, so you’ll have to be patient and watch your drink intake (or not, some say it helps).

Cary Street Cafe
Xbox 360 Rock Band. Thursdays at 9pm. Free. Everyone loves Rock Band. If you don’t, then clearly you hate life. I personally rock the drums or the mic and accept all invites to play.

Strawberry Street Cafe
On snow days when schools are closed, they offer half off burgers and fries or quiche. Never thought this would happen enough to be useful until this winter.

BlackFinn
Trivia on Tuesdays at 9pm. My trivia team, The Artist Formerly Known As, was the winningest team in BlackFinn trivia history awhile back, but constantly changing management, start time, and prizes eventually made us quit. Apparently they’re still at it.

Penny Lane
Pub Trivia Wednesdays at 7pm, downstairs in the non-smoking section. Monday: Upstairs Trivia (smoking section) by Brainstormer from 8:30pm to 10pm. After 10pm is free pool. Tuesdays and Thursdays are Texas Hold ‘Em Poker.

Sticky Rice
Sundays are Piko Trivia at 11pm. Thursdays have BLINGO speed bingo at 11pm.

Mulligan’s
Trivia Tuesdays 8pm. $50 for first place, $25 for second place, $10 for 3rd place.
Poker Wednesday: 6pm signup. 7pm tourney. $100 cash prize.
