For this Friday’s tasting, I’ve got five more summer-friendly wines for you to try. Some of these are new to our portfolio while others represent new vintages of old favorites. Here’s what I will be pouring:
Egeo 2011 Rueda Verdejo: Made from the Verdejo grape in the Rueda appellation located in central Spain, this aromatic yet dry white wine offers grapefruit, melon, peach and floral aromas.
Di Lenardo 2011 Friulano “TOH!”: Dry yet roundly textured, this white wine from Friuli in northeastern italy has aromas that recall lemon zest and almonds. Long a favorite at RCC!
Finca Torremilanos 2011 Monte Castrillo Rosado: Made from 100% Tempranillo in the esteemed Ribera del Duero appellation of central Spain, this dry rose has upfront strawberry and floral notes and good underlying acidity.
Bieler Pere et Fils 2011 Coteaux d’Aix en Provence Rose: An assemblage of 50% Syrah, 30% Grenache, 10% Cinsault and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon lies behind this pale-colored rose from southern France. Freshly-crushed red berried flavors along with hints of peach and Mediterranean herbs come to mind in tasting this dry, mid-weight rose.
Azienda Santa Barbara 2011 Rosso Piceno: From the capable hands of winemaker Stefano Antonucci comes this medium-bodied, dry red wine made from a mesh of Montepulciano and Sangiovese grapes grown near the city of Ancona in Le Marche, Italy. Supple and fresh-tasting, this wine offers loads of cherry like flavors along with violet and other floral impressions. A superb red wine for the summer months in particular!
