Richmond Police are investigating a shooting Tuesday night of a man on Richmond’s Belle Isle, and has been updated to include the possibility that the man may have shot himself.

Police were notified of the shooting at 9:28 p.m. and found that a man in his 40s had gunshot wounds on his buttocks and in the rear of one leg. Police said the man was taken to VCU Medical Center for treatment of injuries that were not life-threatening.

The victim told police he did not know what had happened, according to police.

“We’re looking at the possibility that this was self-inflicted,” said police spokesman Gene Lepley. Due to inconsistencies in the victim’s account of what happened investigators are taking a long look at the possibility the shooting was self-inflicted.
