Oh hey, it’s a new Restaurant Week-like festival! The newly created Fan Area Business Alliance brings you Flavors of the Fan–a week long celebration of, you guessed it, The Fan’s various flavors with proceeds benefiting Fan Free Clinic. Hit up one of the participating restaurants from November 11th – 17th, experience one of the classic flavors from your favorite RVA neighborhood (excluding “city possum” and “drunk dudes on Robinson”), and help out a local cause. Carytown Farmers Market

The Carytown Farmers Market is the city’s only Sunday market. We are starting our 2013 season April 14 and will be located in the Carytown Cleaners parking lot at 3300 West Cary Street.

City Council Formal Meeting

Mon Nov 11 6:00 pm
Every 2nd and 4th Mon – Responsible for deciding official Council action, which includes discussing, adopting, rejecting, and amending laws and approving the budget. Formal meetings include a time for pubic comment and are televised live on the local PBS station and are replayed in Richmond on Government Access Channel 17, beginning at Noon and 7:00 p.m. daily.

Frequency
Typically the second and fourth Monday of each month; 6:00-8:30 p.m. (With the exception of August, when no Formal meetings are held, and holidays)

Living Ethics: The Irony of Abundance

Vaidhyanathan is the Robertson Professor in Media Studies at the University of Virginia. A reception at 6:30 pm will precede the 7 pm presentation. Carillon: The Story of a Richmond Community

Banner Lecture Series at the Virginia Historical Society / An active community nestled near Richmond’s Byrd Park, the Carillon neighborhood has a surprisingly rich, complex history. Basing her lucture on her recently published work, The Carillon Neighborhood: A History, Dr. Elizabeth O’Leary will relate the story of the area’s land and people from the colonial frontier to antebellum farmland; Gilded Age streetcar suburb to upscale Jazz Age development; site of a postwar housing boom to hub for civil rights activism. The lecture will provide special focus on the formation of the Carillon Civic Association and its efforts in the turbulent 1960s and ’70s in nurturing one of Virginia’s first successfully integrated communities. An art historian who resides in Richmond, O’Leary is the former associate curator of American art at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts.
