The Phoenix Project was honored to receive the 2009 Virginia Governor’s Award for Volunteerism and Community Service in the National Service category. The award recognizes the Phoenix Project’s partnership with Craigslist Foundation and George Mason University to research, develop, and deploy effective social media/Web 2.0 tools to increase student community service in economically distressed communities nationwide.
The awards “highlight the efforts of outstanding citizens of the Commonwealth who seek to enhance the lives of others in their communities.” Marion and Greg Werkheiser accepted the award from Governor Tim Kaine on behalf of the Phoenix Project at a reception at the Governor’s Mansion in Richmond.
