The West End Academy of Dance and Pilates, Dance and More have joined together to produce a much loved holiday classic, “The Nutcracker Sweet”, being performed at Deep Run High December 11 and 12, 2010, at 2:00pm. Each performance will be followed by a ‘Sweets Party’ where the audience can meet the Clara, the Sugar Plum Fairy and other cast members and enjoy some tasty treats.

The directors of both studio, Mary Munroe (West End Academy of Dance), Tristi MacMaster Robinson (Pilates, Dance and More) and Norvell Robinson (Pilates, Dance and More), have each performed professionally in numerous productions of the Nutcracker and are excited to bring their fresh new vision to the Richmond area.

The Nutcracker, a traditional ballet set in Victorian times was first staged in Russia in 1892. The new choreography in “The Nutcracker Sweet” retains the charm of the original production set to the magical music.

Local students from both studios will be featured along with two professional artists, Heidi Kershaw and Alvaro Palau, who come to the performance courtesy of the Bowen McCaul Dance Company of Washington, DC.

Heidi Kershaw, performing the role of the ‘Sugar Plum Fairy’, from Springfield, VA, began dancing at the Virginia Ballet Company in northern Virginia. After graduating from George Mason University, she danced professionally in several national opera productions and on Broadway.

Alvaro Palau, performing the ‘Cavalier Prince’, from Cali, Columbia, was a principal dancer with the Washington Ballet for 10 years. He has danced with the National Ballet of Venezuela and has performed in numerous international festivals.

Come share in the magic as Heidi Kershaw and Alvaro Palau dance side-by-side with some of your neighborhood dance students in this heart-warming holiday show sure to enthrall children and families of all ages.

Tickets are available at the studios or by calling (804) 740-0842. Tickets will also be available at the door.
