Let me just start off by saying that I love my four year old dearly.  I’m just used to him not being my responsibility for four hours each Monday through Friday morning.  When did I suddenly become a hater of Spring Break?  I mean, the non-MTV related Spring Break, because that got old a while ago.  As a kid, Spring Break was so fun and exciting, but now my kids are in the other room watching some show on Noggin while I post on this blog.  How exciting is that?  I have a friend who’s a really great mom and she’s planned “Spring Break Surprises” all week.  Maybe by the time I have three children in school all day (oh, blessed day) I will be that cool and prepared, but I’m doubting it.  Their week includes (but is not limited to) chocolate chip cookie breakfast, kids in charge for two hour blocks, and an overnight at a nearby hotel in which one of the activities will be to watch American Idol in bed.  Can I come?

If you are like me and are looking for things to do (but aren’t as creative as my cool friend) here are some already planned events and ideas to help:

Maymont has events all week, some required registration previously, but others do not.

Children’s Museum has “Spring Break Fever”

  • Tuesday April 7th Turtle Show & Tell 11:00-11:30am
  • Wednesday April 8th Live Aquatic Life 11:00-12:00pm
  • Thursday April 9th Tae Kwon Do Demonstration 1:00-2:00pm
  • Friday April 10th Parrots of Paradise 10:30-11:30am

Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden

Go see an IMAX movie at the Science Museum of Virginia.

Go to any number of parks around town and play.

Or, you could do what I’m doing and let your children “relax” in front of the television (because preschool is so intellectually challenging) and then go to FanTastic Thrift to find them some spring clothes.  It is spring, right?
