The Petersburg Area Art League (PAAL) announces two exciting opportunities coming up in July and August, in our newly-renovated classrooms at the PAAL gallery in historic Old Towne Petersburg.

First, PAAL is calling all cartoon lovers. Artists of all ages, backgrounds and experience levels are invited to a fun and liberating class called “The Art of Making Cartoon and Caricature.” Come learn to draw and study this sophisticated and timeless art form, and discover how your instructor, Sagan Lacy, of Savannah College of Art and Design, uses his passion for cartooning, illustration and caricature to inspire and educate.

This six-week class begins Saturday, July 25th, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. and costs $75. Please bring with you pencils, Sharpie Twin Tip markers and plenty of paper. Space is limited, so please make your reservations today by calling PAAL at (804) 861-4611.

Next PAAL welcomes your children to a two-week summer camp, focusing on the art of paper machete, mixed media, painting and crafts.

August 3rd-7th will be for rising 2nd through 5th graders; August 10th-14th will be for rising 6th through 12th graders.

Cost will be $50 per week, with a discounted $30 fee for the second child per family. This summer camp will culminate in a children’s art show in our upstairs gallery on August 14th, beginning at 6 p.m. Some of the work done by our campers will be on sale.
