A couple bits of news related to old buildings in the Fan.
First, have any of the rest of you wondered about the big (27,000sf big), old, castle-looking building (”Tudor revival mansion” is what they call it) on Monument at Davis? Well, it’s the Virginia Center for Architecture. It’s open T-F 10-5, and Sat and Sun 1-5 and it’s free!
Next Wednesday (in honor of preservation week–no I did not know such a week existed) the Center will host a special event called Facts and Legends of the Richmond Hills (Bonus points to anyone who can name the real seven hills of Richmond!):
the Virginia Center for Architecture welcomes Wayne Dementi and Brooks Smith to share unforgettable stories and stunning images of the hills of Richmond. Following the lecture, the author and photographer will be available for book signings. Copies of Facts and Legends of the Hills of Richmond will be available in the Museum Shop. In related news, the Fan District Association is receiving nominations for its annual Historic Preservation Awards (to be announced at the Annual Meeting on May 19). It also is receiving nominations for Fan Volunteer Awards.
