Mattress King will become the fourth major Henrico-based retailer to cease operations, following Circuit City, LandAmerica and S&K Menswear. The company began liquidating stores a little more than a week ago. Just a block from the Short Pump location, however, a new mattress retailer has moved into the Promenade Shoppes.
Sleepy’s, a mattress retailer that operates more than 700 stores along the East Coast, has taken over the space formerly occupied by J. Fenton Gifts and another vacant space that has never been leased.
Down the road in the Short Pump Station shopping center, locally-owned frozen yogurt and topping bar Very Berry has leased 1,380 square feet at 11301 West Broad Street, near Trader Joe’s. No word on when the location will open. Very Berry currently operates a location further east on West Broad Street near VCU.
