A new locally-owned shop has opened at West Broad Village. The Silver Parrot Boutique, a Key West-themed shop, carries everything from handmade jewelry to casual clothing and accessories. Owner Dan Grantham is no stranger to the jewelry business, having been in the industry for more than three decades.

Grantham started his career in 1982 at Richmond’s Cowardin’s Jewelers. In 1994, he opened Rappahannock Jewelry Company in Urbanna, Virginia. He opened a second store in 2004 called Urbanna Republic, which featured clothing and accessories. Two years later in 2006, he opened Yorktown Republic in Yorktown, which combined jewelry and clothing under one roof.

Citing a desire to get closer to family and seeing an opportunity in the Short Pump area, Grantham decided to open The Silver Parrot Boutique in West Broad Village.

“With a client base already built up in Richmond from the Urbanna and Yorktown stores, we just need to get the word out that we are here, and they will come,” Grantham, who hand designs all jewelry sold in his stores, said.

His boutique aims to be something truly local and unique. “My wife and I travel all over the country looking for the eclectic and unusual for our stores. We want to offer our customers goods they can’t find in the big box places.”

Grantham is currently putting together what he calls “The Silver Parrothead Club,” which will be a private Friday evening showing of his latest jewelry creations.
