Style Weekly’s annual search for the young men and women who seek to make change and serve the community: Top 40 Under 40. The James River Park’s Nathan Burrell is one of the honorees.

“Some of them are used to making headlines, while others’ efforts are quietly rendered. But they all offer stories that inspire — and perhaps serve as a call to action,” according to the Style Weekly intro.  I love that Nathan chose to pose for his photo at “The Porch,” a cool granite switchback in Buttermilk Heights, which I helped he and Jimmy McMillan construct (at least for a couple of hours). See more about Nathan:

Walk — or drive, if you must — anywhere near Virginia Commonwealth University or the James River on any fall day, and you’re liable to see hundreds of people riding bicycles: students, commuters, outdoor adventurists. They’re everywhere. And as the city moves toward greener pastures and continues to become a more eco-friendly town, those numbers will only multiply.

Nathan Burrell, the trails manager for the City of Richmond, is one of the people working hard to ensure that it happens. He says it just makes sense.

There are two others honored that contribute to the “beat” that James River News Hub covers:

  • Kevin Jay Tobin, Director of Passages Adventure Camp and Owner of Peak Experiences Indoor Rock Climbing Center
  • Amy George, Geographic Information Systems Analyst for the City of Richmond

I’m sure I was one of many who nominated Amy, and if you haven’t heard her name before now, you certainly should get to know her. She has been very influential in the cycling community and is the driving force behind getting Richmond to host a Ciclovia.
