This week at Chop Suey:

Thursday, November 18th, 4:30 pm: Joanna Wilson, author of The Christmas TV Companion: a Guide to Cult Classics, Strange Specials and Outrageous Oddities, will read from her book and discuss the collision of Christmas and Pop Culture.

Sunday, November 21st, 6 pm: Chop Suey Books and The James River Film Society will co-host a a reading with Mike White, author of the zine Cashiers du Cinemart and the collection Impossibly Funky. Skizz Cyzyk and Bearcat will provide musical selections. James River Film Society will fire up the projectors with Monte Hellman’s film, COCKFIGHTER, and Mike White’s WHO DO YOU THINK YOU’RE FOOLING?, a full-motion montage highlighting the too-close-for-comfort similarities between Quentin Tarantino’s 1992 film, RESERVOIR DOGS, and Ringo Lam’s 1989 Hong Kong movie, CITY ON FIRE. Captain Slappy’s will provide gourment hot dogs for a minimal fee, so come out for dinner and stay for the event!
