A man was rescued from the James River west of the Mayo Bridge Friday afternoon after falling off a 30-foot wall near the Nortfolk Southern Railway Bridge.

The James has been over the 9-foot mark since early Wednesday morning and was at about 9.3 feet at the time of the rescue. The area where he fell is west of Pipeline Rapids and east of the end of the Falls of the James and the tidal waters. The man was taken down to the 14th Street Takeout before being driven awa in an ambulance.

According to information from NBC12:

A water rescue on the James River Friday afternoon. A man fell nearly 30 feet off a wall, into the river just west of the 14th Street (Mayo) Bridge, downriver of the Pipeline Rapids Walkway.

Authorities said he clung to a tree for a while as people called for help.

Two nearby kayakers rescued him. Richmond fire officials said he’s going to be okay.
