An American Family Fitness member died in the Short Pump Town Center location’s pool early Thursday morning, according to Henrico Police. Authorities say Paul C. Osborne was discovered floating face down in the pool by overnight staff members around 3:00 a.m. and performed CPR, unsuccessfully, until rescue teams made it to the club.

Osborne, 31, was pronounced dead at the scene. Police said the cause of death will likely be determined drowning, but will have to be officially determined by a medical examiner. And while an investigation is pending, don’t suspect any criminal action occurred.

All American Family Fitness facilities with pools have signs posted advising members to swim at their own risk, as no lifeguards are kept on duty.

Staff say Osborne regularly swam late at night at the 24-hour Short Pump facility.
