Man Arrested In Connection With Vehicle Fires

CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, VA – Police have arrested and charged man who is accused of setting six vehicles on fire at a Midlothian car dealership and a neighboring business. The incident occurred at about 6:30 a.m. on June 11. Police and fire officials responded to Whitten Brothers Jeep at 10745 Midlothian Turnpike after an observant Chesterfield County fire fighter observed smoke coming from one vehicle. The fire fighter was passing through the area at the time of the incident. He investigated and quickly extinguished one fire. Police and fire officials said paper or cloth had been placed in the gas tanks and set on fire. No one was injured during the incident. James G. Burns, 47, of no permanent address, is charged with six counts of attempted arson, three counts of felony vandalism and one count of misdemeanor vandalism. He was arrested without incident after he turned himself in to police. Burns is being held in the Chesterfield County Jail pending an upcoming hearing in Chesterfield County General District Court.
