CarMax, the nation’s largest retailer of used cars, based in West Creek several miles west of Short Pump, is currently recruiting for more than 1,200 store positions in locations across the country as part of the company’s seasonal staffing needs as well as part of announced expansion plans.

The majority of positions are in sales and service operations, including detailers and technicians, with additional positions available in purchasing and the business office.

Full and part-time permanent positions are available, as well as evening shifts in some markets.

“At a time when unemployment continues to be a concern and people are looking for career opportunities, we are proud to offerquality jobs that provide training, development and excellent benefits at a great company to work for,” said Tom Folliard, president and CEO of CarMax. “Hiring excellent people is critical to our success.”

The Goochland County-based company has been listed on the Fortune Magazine “100 Best Companies to Work For” list for the six years running.

“Integrity is at the core of our business and it’s a quality we look for in all applicants,” said Pam Hill, director of selection and recruitment for CarMax. “CarMax is also looking for candidates who are dependable, team oriented, possess strong customer service skills and who have a willingness to work the varied hours of a retail work environment.”

The company says job seekers should apply online, after which they will contact applicants and set up interviews after an initial review. They note that while technicians require previous automotive experience, most positions do not.

CarMax operates 103 used car superstores in 49 markets. During the fiscal year ended February 28, 2010, the company retailed 357,129 used vehicles and sold 197,382 wholesale vehicles at in-store auctions.
