Local Medical Supplier Outgrows Headquarters, Comes Back to Innsbrook

A local medical supplier is expanding its footprint again, and coming back to Innsbrook after leaving it two years ago. CarePoint Medical is moving for the fourth time in four years into new headquarters.

Care Point Medical is moving its offices back to the Innsbrook Corporate Center.

President and CEO Dodd Levy said CarePoint, which used to be called Diamedix Medical, has outgrown its home of two years in the Reynolds office building off West Broad Street.

The company, which provides a variety of shoes to diabetic patients as well as other medical supplies, moved to Richmond from Maryland in 2007. (Read more about when they first moved to Richmond).

The new Innsbrook headquarters is about 21,000 square feet, a big leap from the company’s 6,000-square-foot former office.

“We didn’t want to separate CarePoint’s departments, divisions and sister companies into separate locations,” Levy said.

They leased the space in April and plan to be open by mid-July and bring on 50 to 200 employees to add to their staff of 130 within 12 months.

The company provided 7,000 pairs of shoes for diabetic patients in 2008. Levy said that since then its expansion into other products, such as braces, mobility equipment and other supplies.

“We will be furthering expansion of our current products and expanding into products and different services,” he said.
In addition to a new headquarters, CarePoint Medical has leased a 5,000-square-foot space across the street in the Technology Park building, which the company plans to turn into a pharmacy called Infusion PRN.

Francine Mastin, vice president of the pharmacy, said it will mainly be a lab for the administration of IV medication and other services for patients with chronic illnesses.

“We’re going to bring on pharmacy technicians and nurses that will be working with home health agencies to provide a wide spectrum of health-care services,” she said.

Mastin said the company would hire about 100 employees for the new pharmacy, which is expected to be running by July.
The company’s revenue mainly comes from Medicare and private insurance companies, and Levy said he expects to grow beyond $20 million in revenue this year.

As for his future plans of expansion, Levy said he expects to grow beyond the company’s new headquarters.
“We’re looking to add 5,000 square feet in the next few months,” he said. “If things continue to progress, we may take additional space beyond that.”
