On Wednesday, November 18, from 6:00 until 10:00 p.m., the Aloft Hotel in West Broad Village will transform into a two-story art gallery, hosting the art and action sports event Kalospectra. The event will feature local and regional artists, performance BMX art, and free live music by DJ Cornbread in the hip atmosphere of the new Aloft Hotel. The event is free and open to the public.

Bringing an eclectic mix of art to Richmond, featured artists at Kalospectra will include:

  • Ryan Humphrey: a former contestant on the Bravo TV show, “Top Design,” his BMX-inspired installations, including Fast Forward, have been featured at the Queens Museum of Art in New York City and the Levy Gallery for the Arts in Philadelphia.
  • Doug Clarke (LiquidMethod): Doug Clarke is a commercial illustrator & designer living in Virginia Beach. Working professionally since 1998, Doug’s work has appeared most recently in American Way and The Source magazines. On the fine art side, Doug does commissioned portraits, his last for Pat DiNizio of the Smithereens. www.liquidmethod.com
  • Colin Ginks: Colin Ginks is a visual artist and a published novelist. English by birth, he has lived a “nomadic existence” in such places as Lisbon, Marseille, Johannesburg and New York City, before recently settling in Norfolk, Virginia. Ginks has exhibited in galleries across Europe and in New York, including the Leslie-Lohman Gallery in New York City and most recently with the ArtFlux Organization, also in New York City.
  • Chelsey Barnes: “I am always trying to think positive; always carrying yourself negatively affects every aspect of your life. It really is easier to live life being sweet than it is being sour, but then again you’ve got to remember that there is no use being sweet if you’re too prude to take your wrapper off every once in a while. I’m inspired largely by people that are set in situations where they must live a humble life.”
