Henrico Police Detonate Suspicious Backpack Near Colonnades West Shopping Center

Henrico Police were called to the intersection of Cox Road and Westerre Parkway early Saturday afternoon for reports of a suspicious backpack near the Colonnades West shopping center. Authorities evacuated the area and police rerouted traffic off of Cox Road until the bomb squad could determine whether the backpack posed a threat.

Upon further examination, the squad discovered the backpack contained electronic equipment and food, but detonated it as a precaution around 3:15 p.m.

There’s no word on the origin of the backpack, but police deemed the contents safe, detonating only as a precaution.
