Are you concerned about the health and future of Virginia’s rivers and the Chesapeake Bay? Do you have a passion for improving your community and an interest in meeting other Chesapeake Bay lovers? Do you want to make a difference but aren’t quite sure where to start?

If so, CBF’s VoiCeS program is looking for you.

VoiCeS, which stands for “Volunteers as Chesapeake Stewards,” is an adult education program that provides participants with important information on subjects affecting the health of the Chesapeake Bay and its rivers and streams. The program combines classroom instruction with hands-on Bay experiences and empowers individuals to take their Bay knowledge and experiences back to their own community. 

Registration for our fall VoiCeS class is now open, and we want you!

Class schedule: Wednesday evenings, September 14 to November 2, 2011

Time: 6:00 p.m.–8:30 p.m.

Location: Chesapeake Bay Foundation
                 1108 E. Main Street
                 Richmond, VA 23219

Materials Fee: $30 per individual/$50 per couple

Chesapeake Bay Foundation 101
Urban Water Quality Issues
State of the James
Sustainable Development and Greening our Cities
James River History and Nature Walk
Alternative Transportation
Citizen Action and Advocacy
Agriculture and the Watershed
Fracking—Science and Grassroots Action
Special program trip on the James River!

What does VoiCeS entail?
1.     Classroom Training: eight 2.5-hour classes once a week taught by environmental professionals
2.     Service to Community: 40 hours over the course of four to six months, supporting environmental awareness in your community
3.     Formal Designation as Chesapeake Steward
