Now, this is a story of Petersburg Area Art League’s (PAAL’s) upcoming July exhibit, “Fresh Prints: Daphne’s Doors,” featuring the photographic work of acclaimed actress Daphne Maxwell Reid, star of the NBC hit comedy The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. Enter the creative mind of Daphne Maxwell Reid as she leads you on a visual journey past the breathtaking doorways, gates and portals of Italy and the Cape Verde Islands of Africa. It seems modest, almost paradoxical, that Daphne titled her debut collection with a term as simple as “Doors.” Replete with rich textures, bold colors and exotic imagery that conjures childlike curiosity, Daphne’s photos capture how a mere architectural frontispiece can transform into a stunning and timeless work of art.

Most notable for her role as Will Smith’s “Aunt Viv” in the Emmy-nominated sitcom the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, Daphne Maxwell Reid is the wife of actor/director/producer Tim Reid, with whom she co-founded and currently operates New Millennium Studios in Petersburg, VA.

The doors for this exhibit and reception open on July 10 from 6-9 p.m. at PAAL’s Main Gallery, in conjunction with Old Towne Petersburg’s Friday for the Arts!

Daphne Maxwell Reid will be on hand to discuss her work, and her photos will remain on display at the gallery Tuesdays through Saturdays, from noon to 6:00 p.m. though August 8, 2009.

These events are free and open to the public.
