Fog on the James River at Pony Pasture as the sun comes up. What atmospheric conditions are needed to create this effect?

The water needs to be warmer than the air above it.  Very simple, and somewhat common this time of year early in the morning as the water temperature is often still warm from the summer sun, but the air is cooler as we are getting closer to autumn.

Regrettably, I didn’t get the best photos. This one was taken at about 7 a.m. just as the sun was coming up over the north bank at Pony Pasture. The morning before was much more dramatic, but I didn’t have my camera.
