Fan-area restaurants heavily represented in Elbys bids

The January 2012 issue of Richmond Magazine has info on the 2012 Elbys, a new awards and recognition program for the Richmond region’s restaurant community. The Elbys, named for renowned French Chef and Richmonder Paul Elbling, will be given out on Sunday evening, February 12, 2012. These awards will recognize winners from a list of nominees in nine categories. Net ticket proceeds will benefit the Tricycle Gardens. (Tickets are available online.)

A number of Fan-area restaurants have been nominated for the awards. Dale Reitzer of Acacia Mid-town and Russel Cook of Balliceaux have been nominated as Chef of the Year (along with Todd Johnson of Mezzanine and Lee Gregory of The Roosevelt).

Garnett’s Cafe has been nominated as best Neighborhood Restaurant (along with The Black Sheep, Aziza’s on Main, and Mama J’s). Acacia, Balliceaux, and Fanhouse are all up for best Beverage Program (along with Belvidere at Broad). Josh Gaulin of Acacia, Carly Herring of The Empress, and Virginia Rowland of Rowland Fine Dining are all up for best Pastry Chef (with Sara Ayyash of Lemaire). Acacia and Balliceaux have also been nominated as best Fine Dining Restaurant (with Buckhead’s and Lemaire.)
