The Virginia Museum of Fine Arts presents its eighth annual EggCellent Family Day for the whole family Saturday, April 4, from 10 a.m. to noon.

The event will feature a special guest, Hoppity Rabbit, and a performance by the Richmond Indigenous Gourd Orchestra.  Children can visit the orchestra’s “gourd petting zoo” and take part in a mini-parade.

Festivities will include egg hunts, face-painting, bunny-hop sack races, rope-toss games, painting whimsical butterflies, and decorating wooden eggs with jewels and embellishments in ways inspired by the maker of VMFA’s renowned Peter Carl Fabergé Russian imperial Easter eggs. (Egg hunts will be conducted by age group.)

EggCellent Family Day will also feature a grow-your-own-art workshop, which will include painting a planter, learning about recycling fruits and veggies to grow more, and a guided tour through the galleries to explore Fabergé and the plants to be found in VMFA paintings.

The fee is $8 (members $6) for children ages 3-12. Admission for accompanying adults is free. To register, telephone (804) 340-1405.
