Some Deep Run High School students are planning to make a difference, not just in their backyard, but around the world. A group of sixty Key Club members at the school will package 12,000 meals for Stop Hunger Now, a Raleigh-based international hunger relief organization that coordinates the distribution of food and other life-saving aid around the world.

The students will create an assembly line to make vacuum-sealed meal packets consisting of rice, soy, dehydrated vegetables and a flavoring mix including 21 essential vitamins and minerals. Each meal costs only 25 cents. The food stores easily, has a shelf-life of five years and transports quickly.

Stop Hunger Now meals primarily support school lunch programs and areas in crisis around the world.
