The 2014 Community Conversations Series is organized by Valentine Richmond History Center in collaboration with Richmond Magazine and to have the people of Richmond talk about the city’s past and what that can mean for the future. There will be four discussions (the first on Shockoe was held earlier this month) about various Richmond localities. In February it’s Monroe Park’s turn. Richmond Magazine writer, hat wearer, and RVA Historian, Harry Kollatz Jr. will moderate the discussion and provide historical and current context for the discussion.
Monroe Park with Harry Kollatz, Jr. Tuesday, February 4, 6-8 pm The Nile, 309 N Laurel St
Join us as we collaborate with Richmond Magazine, TMI Consulting Inc., the Future of Richmond’s Past and local restaurants to offer our next series of “Community Conversations.” Each month we will discuss a locale in the city spanning from Shockoe Bottom to the Boulevard. Attendees will participate in a discussion with Harry Kollatz, Jr., senior writer with Richmond Magazine and author of two books on Richmond history: Richmond Ragtime and True Richmond Stories, who will facilitate a conversation on the significant events and changes that have occured in Monroe Park over time. By the end of the evening attendees will have a comprehensive view of the history of Monroe Park and how it has become the locality that we see today.
This is the fourth iteration of the “Community Conversations” series. The purpose of the series is to engage the community in a dialogue about the region’s past and how that past can positively shape our collective future. The more people that join in the conversation, the more productive our efforts become, and the easier it will be for everyone to see ourselves in the history of the region.
Free and open to the public.
