The deadline for nonprofit organizations to submit applications for The Cameron Foundation’s Excellence in Organizational Management Award is July 9, 2009. Only nonprofit organizational staff or board members are eligible to apply for this award on behalf of their organization. Applications can be found on the Foundation’s website, www.camfound.org, or by calling the Foundation at (804) 732-8900. One candidate will be selected to receive a single, unrestricted $30,000 gift for demonstrating excellence in overall organizational management. Up to two honorable mentions, with awards of $10,000 each, will go to organizations that exemplify excellence in one or more of the specific areas reviewed during the scoring process.

Last year, Southside Virginia Emergency Crew was honored with the Excellence in Organizational Management Award. Pathways and Virginia’s Gateway Region each received honorable mentions. In 2007, the first year for this recognition award, the Hopewell-Prince George Chapter of the American Red Cross was chosen, with Petersburg Urban Ministries (now known as Pathways) and Southside Virginia Emergency Crew, Inc. each garnering honorable mentions.

This award is one of two annual recognition awards sponsored by The Cameron Foundation, totaling $90,000 for nonprofit organizations within the Foundation’s service area of Petersburg, Colonial Heights, Hopewell and the counties of Dinwiddie, Prince George, Sussex and the portion of Chesterfield County lying south of Rt. 10. The other is the Cleveland A. Wright Award for Outstanding Community Service. For this award, members of the community were encouraged to nominate an organization that they felt had demonstrated a commitment to caring and generosity of spirit, as well as openness and accessibility. Nominations were due to the Foundation on June 18, 2009. Candidates that met the award criteria have been contacted and invited to submit an application form by the same July 9 deadline. From these applicants, one nonprofit organization will be honored with an unrestricted $40,000 gift.

Last year, The James House Intervention/Prevention Services was chosen to receive the Cleveland A. Wright Award for Outstanding Community Service. In 2007, which was the first year of this recognition award, it was presented to Crater Community Hospice, Inc.

The Cameron Foundation is an independent, not-for-profit organization formed in April 2003 with the proceeds of the sale of Southside Regional Medical Center. The Foundation’s mission is to promote and provide support for programs and activities that benefit the residents in its service area, which includes those areas historically served by the hospital.

More information about the Foundation, its grant opportunities and these two recognition award programs can be found on its website, www.camfound.org, or via telephone at (804) 732-8900.
