144th Commemoration of the Battle of Old Men and Boys to be held at Historic Blandford Church in Petersburg – Tuesday, June 9, 2009 at 5:00pm

Mark Summers of the Jamestown -Yorktown Foundation will speak regarding the topic June 9: Defending Petersburg Yesterday and Today. The Reverend Harvey Joyner, pastor of the First Congregational Christian United Church of Christ in Chesterfield will preside as chaplain, and Miss Caitlyn Blackwell will be the event soloist.
In addition to the service, there will be a 45 minute cemetery tour at 3:30pm. The tour will feature the personal stories of citizens of Petersburg whose lives were changed forever as a result of the June 9, 1864 battle. The tour begins at the Blandford Church Reception Center.
All events are free to the public and seating in the church will begin at 4:15pm. These events are sponsored by the Ladies Memorial Association of Petersburg and the City of Petersburg Museums. For more info contact Martha Atkinson, (804) 733-2396.
