Want to participate in the James River Regional Cleanup but stay away from the river? How about finding trash treasure in the “vertical version” of the James by cleaning a tributary among the huge granite boulders of Reedy Creek in Forest Hill Park?

Trash in Reedy Creek at Forest Hill ParkWhat, you’ve never looked at the rocks in Reedy Creek and thought about how much it looks like the James River, only vertical?

The regional event will take place Saturday from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. Volunteer registration at both James River Park System sites at Reedy Creek and Pony Pasture are full but the Friends of Forest Hill Park still need help:

Volunteers will remove paper, bottles, plastic, cans, old tires and other trash from Reedy Creek.   Litter and trash that enters Reedy Creek makes our waters unsafe for people and wildlife.

Join your neighbors at 8:30 am this Saturday at the back parking lot of the Patrick Henry School, located at 3411 Semmes Avenue for clean up assignments.

Wear sturdy shoes and thick gloves.

This effort is being sponsored by the Alliance for the Chesapeake Bay, the Reedy Creek Coalition, and the City of Richmond. To register for the volunteer effort, please contact Chris French:   cfrench@allianceforthebay.org.
