Treveon Graham makes Team USA Basketball for the World University Games

After a week of highly competitive tryouts against 26 other players, Treveon Graham has been named to the Team USA 12-man roster for the World University Games.

Update #3 — July 2, 2013; 7:08 PM

Last summer, VCU dominated opponents all across Italy, but Ram fans were left in the dark as none of the games were on television. This summer, the Black & Gold faithful will be able to get their summer college basketball fix when Treveon Graham and Team USA take their show on the road to Kazan, Russia. The times won’t be convenient, but at least five Team USA games will be broadcasted on ESPNU from July 7th to July 12th. If the Red, White, and Blue finish first or second in group play, even more games will be on television.

Update #2 — June 30, 2013; 4:04 PM

For the second summer in a row, Treveon Graham is going abroad. In 2012, he wore black and gold as VCU dominated opponents in Italy. This summer he will suit up in red, white, and blue for Team USA as they travel to Kazan, Russia for the World University Games.

27 players travelled travelled to Colorado Springs, Colorado on Monday, June 24th to tryout. Head coach Bob McKillop (Davidson) clearly liked what he saw as Treveon Graham earned a spot ahead of some of the best returning college basketball players in the country.

“Clearly versatility, we have guys that can play more than one position, that’s one of the great strengths we have. I think we shoot the ball particularly well from a number of positions, and we’ve got guys who want to be teammates. Those two things, to me, are the biggest advantages that we have, or the biggest strengths for our team.”

The final twelve man roster is loaded with talent including Final 4 MVP Luke Hancock from Louisville, sensational scorer Doug McDermott from Creighton, and point guard on the rise Yogi Ferrell from Indiana.

The team departs Monday. They will practice and scrimmage for several days before beginning group play on July 7th against United Arab Emirates. Their group is rounded out by Australia, Canada, Czech Republic, and Sweden.

Treveon Graham has been invited to the 2013 USA Basketball World University Games Training camp in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

The 2013 World University Games men’s basketball competition is scheduled to be played July 6-17 in Kazan, Russia. The team will be coached by Davidson’s head coach Bob McKillop. The coaching staff will be rounded out by Michigan’s John Beilein (former Richmond head coach), and South Carolina’s Frank Martin.

Treveon Graham will join 28 other invitees from June 24-30. Finalists will be announced on June 28th and the final 12-man roster will be announced on July 1st.

Bradford Burgess received the same honor in 2011, but a sprained ankle sidelined the VCU standout the week before the camp and he was unable to make the trip to Colorado Springs.
