After a decade of sponsoring the Monument Avenue 10K, Ukrop’s is stepping down from the role of presenting sponsor and will be replaced by Martin’s—beginning with next year’s race.

Martin’s President, Rick Herring, announced the takeover Friday morning during the Retail Merchants Association’s First Friday Forum along with Ukrop’s President and CEO Bobby Ukrop.

Other forum speakers included Jim Scanlon, regional vice president for Martin’s and Nancy Thomas, president and CEO of the Retail Merchants Association.

The Friday forum was the first announcement of Martin’s three-year sponsorship for the 10K, which will now be called the Ukrop’s Monument Avenue 10K presented by Martin’s.

The 10K snagged a spot on the USA Today list of the nation’s top ten races last year.

This past year’s race drew more than 37,000 participants. The 12th Monument Avenue 10k will take place Saturday, April 2, 2011. Registration will open December 1, 2010.
