Westover Hills 4th of July Parade and Fireworks Road Closures

Happy Fourth

From the Westover Hills Newsletter.

The annual Westover Hills 4th of July Children’s Parade will be held Friday, July 4, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. or so. This neighborhood tradition began 13 years ago as a small neighborhood play group, and is now attended by hundreds of Westover Hills residents, young and old. It’s a great festive way to start off the Fourth of July Holiday!

Children, families, adults, and even dogs dress in red, white, and blue and march down Sylvan Road on their decorated strollers, bicycles, scooters, or . . .you name it. Neighbors line the street and clap and cheer as people march by. Everyone is welcome and encouraged to come and show support!

The parade starts at 10 a.m. and runs from the intersection of Peterborough and Sylvan Road up to 5021 Sylvan Road. Please stay afterwards for red, white, and blue snow cones, popcorn, and festive give-aways before you head off to other Fourth of July events.

Fireworks tonight. Please be sure and pick up after yourself and maybe even pick up some stuff that others left.

The WHNA will again sponsor street closings on July 4th so folks may safely view the fireworks display at Dogwood Dell.

Riverside Drive will be closed from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. in the area between Prince Arthur and Evelyn Byrd, and also between New Kent and Breckenridge near the railroad bridge. These closings protect the safety of spectators by preventing traffic and parking in these areas.
