Ladies and Gents, The Kickstand; bicycle rental, sales & service– RCC’s newest earned-income-generator–will launch a soft-opening this weekend!! Still a lot to do in the next few days, but our crew at Richmond Bicycle Studio have been incredible with keeping things on track. Another HUGE thanks to the Robins Foundation for the underwriting support in this exciting, revolutionary social enterprise. Also, we want to give the City of Richmond, VA a shout out. Because of some really forward-thinking/fast-acting folks within City Hall, this concept became a reality. Finally, Big Thanks to SignScapes, Inc. for the super new, super rad, graphics (see below)!! The Richmond Cycling Corps is an example of an organization that simply gets things done. There are no lengthy studies, that don’t create a committee to look into an issue. They see a need and they step up and work to solve that need. My suggestion for a better city government would be to have every City Councilperson, School Board Member and Mayor work with RCC for three weeks. If that doesn’t motivate them to action all hope is lost.

From RCC:

RCC’s newest earned-income-generator/RCC-youth-employment provider, “The Kickstand,” will be up and running very soon! A bicycle rental outpost 10ft from the Capital Trail, with tons of parking, we are incredibly excited to get this project ‘cranked’ up!

RCC Youth will patrol (at a minimum) 20-miles of the trail (think Ski Patrol) five days a week! Here’s a sneak peak of the progress on the build-out, and our first batch of new rental bikes also arrived yesterday. On location will be The Kona Bicycle Co. mens/womens hybrids, single speeds, road bikes, cross bikes, kids trailers, tandems, fat bikes, cargo bikes, kid-tag-along-bikes all purchased through our very own Richmond Bicycle Studio. The Kickstand will also provide full repair service and sales, water, and fuel. Oh yeah, with a 40ft shaded deck, and comfy chairs overlooking the river, it’s also going to be a preeeetty daaang awesome place to kickback on the Capital Trail.

A HUGE Thank You to the Robins Foundation for helping to fund our latest social-entrepreneurship endeavor, enhancing the Amazing Capital Trail, and of course, for providing one-of-a-kind employment opportunities for our youth!
