Man dies after fall from stairway at Belle Isle

A man who police said was not carrying any identification died Saturday night after falling from a stairway near the James River in Richmond, according to reports from the Richmond Times-Dispatch and WTVR.

The Richmond Police Department said the man was injured in a 35-foot fall down the concrete spiral stairway at Riverside Drive and 21st Street on the south bank of the river, just west of the Belle Isle footbridge, at about 4 p.m., according to WTVR

He was taken to VCU Medical Center, where he died. The man had not been identified by 8 p.m. Saturday, according to the RTD.

Police were questioning witnesses, according to a spokesperson.
