Hands on Greater Richmond’s third annual HandsOn Day is set to take place this Saturday, October 16. The goal? To bring together hundreds of local volunteers for a day of service dedicated to transforming the Richmond community.

Last year’s efforts brought out 1,100 volunteers. This year, they’re hoping for 1,200.

HandsOn Day 2010 features a variety of projects at 39 different non-profits, city parks, and schools around Richmond. The nature of the work required at the service projects varies, but a good portion of them involve landscaping, painting, and light repair work. There are also a few “events within events” in which volunteers will help with coordination efforts throughout the day.

Several of the community news sites around town have put together posts highlighting HandsOn Day projects in their areas. Check out the list below to find volunteer opportunities in your neighborhood, or stop by the HandsOn Day website to search their full list of projects.

There will be a HandsOn Kickoff Day Celebration for all volunteers at 9am on Saturday at the Richmond International Raceway. Make sure to tag all HandsOn Day-related tweets and Flickr images with HOD10 so your fellow Richmonders can see what you’re up to!
