On April 6th and 7th, the GRTC hosted two meetings, to which Joe Public was invited to opine. Below is the GRTC’s own summary of those meetings, wherein you shall find information on GRTC Pulse etc.

But first! Here’s some background information, which could be useful to know.

On April 6th and 7th, 2015, GRTC Transit System hosted their second quarterly meeting of the year to discuss the Broad Street Corridor BRT at the U of R Downtown campus and the DMV located on Broad Street. The meetings were identical, and began with GRTC CEO, David Green, who discussed the project background, transit improvements, funding and project schedule, in addition to introducing the BRT’s new name, the “GRTC Pulse.” The presentation offered information about the project benefits from Virginia Department of Rail and Public Transportation (DRPT) representative, Amy Inman, who included a summary of the projected economic impact. Kimley-Horn & Associates, the managing consulting engineering firm of the project, discussed the impact BRT would have on roadways and the modifications that would be needed to implement BRT effectively and safely.

Following the presentation, the meeting was divided into four breakout sessions which included in-depth discussion specifically relating to parking, access and pedestrians, station design/architecture and transit service (including how local GRTC routes may marry into BRT once operational). Attendees of the breakout sessions raised questions and expressed their ideas and concerns, regarding how BRT would affect local businesses to how often a station would be served by BRT. The meeting concluded with the break-out sessions reuniting to provide an overview of their session and offer another opportunity for attendees to ask any remaining questions.
