Good Morning, RVA: WEEKEND.
So long, week that was, and thanks for all the fish.

Good morning, RVA! It’s 36 °F, and today’s highs will only hit the mid-40s. That’s way colder than yesterday, but we should have a ton of sun in the sky to help make today feel a little less dreary. Get excited because the sun sticks around and the temperatures go up this weekend.
Water cooler
Yes! This is what I have been saying for weeks now: Virginia’s state snake should totally, 100% be a rattlesnake. Also, this is something our state legislators spent actual law-making time thinking about.
Today’s super-cool public meeting reminder: The Public Art Comission is hosting folks (and the artist, Joshua Wiener) this Saturday to talk about what kind of art should grace the T. Tyler Potterfield Memorial Bridge. The meeting includes a tour of the bridge–which will be beautiful given this weekend’s weather forecast! My suggestion continues to be: Giant metal T-Rex.
Police Chief Durham addressed the city’s mounting murder count yesterday, and the RTD’s Ali Rockett has a good recap. Two next steps for the department: A new program in cooperation with the YWCA focused on stopping domestic-related homicides and another program called Gun250 which gives $250 in exchange for tips leading to illegal guns.
RVA Mag has a cool profile of Red Amp Audio, a recording studio you may have never heard of but I guarantee you’ve seen their building before.
Vox has a tweet-based recap of last night’s Republican debate and Five Thirty Eight has a chartsandgraphs-based recap–afterwards, over at PredictWise, Trump dominates the field with a 69% chance of becoming the nominee. Second placer Marco Rubio will be at James River High School this Sunday at 3:00 PM. You can register here.
I totally almost forgot that the Oscars are this weekend. Vox has this great interactive feature which lets you sort and filter all 57 Oscar nominees by a bunch of different things (including where to stream them!). White men are expected to dominate most of the categories because nobody else was nominated. Zzz.
If you’d like to ignore the Oscars, you could watch Fuller House on Netflix.
Sports!
- Rams will play at George Washington on Saturday at 12:30 PM. GW handed VCU its first conference loss at home back on the 6th. The game will be televised on the NBC Sports Network.
- Spiders head up to Pittsburgh to take on Duquesne at 6:00 PM on Saturday. Watch on ASN.
- #3 Wahoos host #6 North Carolina at 6:30 PM on Saturday, and you can watch on ESPN.
- Hokies will try to win two road games in a row for the first time under Buzz Williams on Sunday at 6:30 PM on ESPNU.

Men Do Laundry Their Way
Sometimes, when you find out there are researchers working on “laundry frustrations,” you just want to give up on life.
Sun Products researchers found that men report fewer laundry frustrations than women, except for one major complaint: sorting. “Men tend to do fewer loads and they tend to put everything together,” says Deep Bhandari, Sun Products’ vice president of consumer insights and strategy. “Sorting is a big problem for them, a significantly higher one than for women.”
