Good morning RVA: The Wintery Mix is here

A wintery mix makes it way through the area this morning, smack dab in the middle of the morning commute.

Good morning, RVA! It’s right below/at/above freezing, depending on where in the city you live, and the Wintery Mix foretold has come to pass: most of the region is under a Winter Weather Advisory until 10:00 AM. You shouldn’t expect any accumulation of snow, but you should expect sleet and freezing rain during your commute which means you need to turn on your head lights and be careful!

High of 58 °F tomorrow, though!

As of right now, everyone goes to school.

The VCU completed the men’s and women’s sweep of University of Richmond yesterday. The women downed the Spiders in the first round of the Atlantic 10 tournament, 61-52, to advanced to the quarterfinals against Dayton (today at 12:00 PM). The men survived an excellent basketball game in the Robins Center, 56-50. They’ll return to action tomorrow at 7:00 PM in the season’s final home game.

Black Girls (who are neither black nor girls) play Balliceaux tomorrow night to celebrate their new album Claire, and on Sunday We Were Promised Jetpacks headlines The Camel. More here.

Also on the music tip, Friday Cheers announced their 2014 lineup. Highlights include Lord Huron, The Infamous String Dusters, and Neko Case. Season tickets are on sale today.

Grantland put together this video of an IT manager who made 18 straight hole-in-one shots in a putt-putt tournament held right here in RVA. Apparently it’s super rare feat of skill; this was just the third time it happened in 50 years of “sanctioned play.” Who knew!
