Good Morning, RVA: First real weekend of 2016
Make it count!

Good morning, RVA! It’s 41 °F, cloudy, and that describes the rest of today, while increasing temperatures and chances of rain this afternoon describes the rest of the weekend. By Sunday you may see highs back in the 60s!

It looks like we may have the final versions of Virginia’s new congressional district maps. The 1st, 3rd, 4th, and 7th have all been significantly redrawn to make them more compact and less squiggly–this is big news for Richmond as it shifts out of the 3rd/7th and into the 4th. If you’ve been voting for Bobby Scott your entire life, that’s about to change.
Related: I’ve never had a problem voting in Richmond City, but this long piece by Ned Oliver about irregularities with RVA’s election board is super concerning. Mayor Jones, who has nothing to do with and no control over the board, says he’ll start publicizing their meeting dates so citizens can voice their concerns. I couldn’t even find their meeting schedule online, so sounds like a good place to start.
Richmond is super photogenic, and a lot of the most photogenic spots are on or around train tracks (I’m looking at you all the millions of beautiful photos of the CSX A-Line bridge). But chillin’ on a train track is dangerous, you guys, and Richmond Magazine would like to remind you of this fact.
Annie Tobey counts 11 new breweries coming to the area next year.
You need to read President Obama’s strongly worded editorial in the New York Times about gun violence (you can also read their recap of last night’s town hall). Don’t forget, we’ve got mayoral and city council elections this year. What will our local representatives do to reduce gun violence in Richmond?

Haunted by hackers: A suburban family’s digital ghost story
Don’t run afoul with the internet or be related to anyone who may do so, I guess.
Adding to the psychic toll was the randomness of the hacker’s attacks. Sometimes, months would go by without a hint of trouble. Then, hoaxes and threats would happen rapidfire for a period of several days, followed by another bout of silence. The Straters learned to live with a constant low-level terror, not knowing when the next pizza would arrive, or when the next crew of emergency responders would show up.
In late April, the Straters were hit by what they call “Tesla Weekend.”
