Glen Allen church erects massive new steeple as part of expansion project

Mount Vernon Baptist Church has a giant new steeple reaching towards the heavens.

Mount Vernon Baptist Church turned heads Friday morning along Nuckols Road as crews from Taylor & Parrish Construction lifted a massive, two-piece pre-manufactured steeple into place as part of the congregation’s new, expanded sanctuary.

Church members broadcast the installation live on Facebook, and a crowd of onlookers also gathered in person to watch the two cranes set the structure into place at the center of the building.

The addition is part of Mount Vernon’s “Believe” campaign, a three-year, $8 million fundraising initiative to add a new sanctuary and parking. The entire project is estimated to come in at around $15 million.

Check out a time lapse video of the steeple’s installation below.
